085.365 (Adorna Con Tanto)

My friend, Beth, is the pastor of Dorranceton UMC in Kingston, Pennsylvania. She has the coolest office ever. It was the library of an old mansion converted into office/meeting space for the church. This is one of the light fixtures hanging from the ceiling.

(Tuesday, 22 December 2009) I finally put up a Christmas tree this afternoon. It stands a little over twelve feet tall. Charlie Brown would be proud of it.

365:347 - Headlights and Water Drops

On the way home from my sister's house we got stopped on Interstate 81. There was a pretty bad accident involving at least five trailer trucks, so we sat still on the highway for about three hours. We got antsy and impatient and fidgety, but we were very grateful that we were safe.

You know how I love water droplets. I took the opportunity to shoot lots of them (and other things) while we were sitting still.

In preparation for Kevin and Stacey’s wedding a couple weeks ago, I started shooting in RAW format. Now I’m addicted to it. I’ve found it to be especially helpful in understanding White Balance. To make the study of this compact fluorescent bulb even more interesting, I used a couple of my Cokin filters. In this particular exposure I used the blue A 020 filter and set WB to “Tungsten”.

Candles make for an interesting study in exposure. These tea lights were the subject of a few dozen photographs as I tried a variety of settings.

I haven’t had the time to decorate for Christmas yet, but did find this miniature tree hiding on a shelf in a closet last night. I went a little crazy photographing it. This was one of my favorite exposures.

I’ve been looking through the photography books I bought the other night. I really like those by Tom Ang. In one, he introduces different lighting techniques by giving examples. The photo he had of leaves being lit by a beam of sunlight piqued my curiosity, so I attempted the technique by placing a houseplant near a window and playing around with the blinds. It was a bit more challenging than I expected.

Just a few of the books I purchased this evening at the Penguin Warehouse Sale.

I’m taking a photography class through the Roberson Photo Club and our sole assignment is to complete a photo scavenger hunt. One of the items on the list is “three”. I decided to break out my menorah and recreate the second night of Chanukah. I was expecting just a single reflection in the window, but the double-paned glass provided a different result.

Arrived in Binghamton a little after sunset this evening to take some photos from the South Washington Street Bridge. Here’s the view of the State Office Building and State Street Bridge.
