it's over.

After missing a fourth day in my 2010 Project 365, I've decided that I'm going to stop. I feel sort of bad about it--I don't like to quit things when people are paying attention, you know?

At the same time, though, I realize that if I've missed four times as many days in just half of the time that I did last year's project, I must be getting weary. Apparently, taking an interesting picture every day for two years in a row isn't going to work out for me.

But I am not tired of taking pictures, so if you're enjoying looking at my stuff, don't worry--I'll still be adding things.

Plus, I have a new project idea in mind...more on that once I actually start in on it.

365::171 - peace

My parents' place always seems so peaceful, away from the speed and noise of the highway.

365::170 - my dad

This is my dad. He's one of the hardest-working, most thoughtful men I know. I got to spend part of Father's Day weekend with him and my mom and my sister. It was great!

365::165 - dreamy

I got a new lens, a Dreamy Diana lens from Photojojo (but really made by Lomography). It's a toy camera lens, and it's got a soft focus. I've been having a lot of fun playing with it, and you'll see more of the results as we go along!

Also, this lamp is one that Eric scored out of the dumpster when we were in Baltimore the weekend that the Hopkins students moved out. Sweet.

365::162 - summer is here

I don't love summer. It's a crazy-busy time at work (which is fine, but I'd prefer the busyness to be spread over a longer period of time). It's hot. There's no free time. I sweat.

One thing that I DO love about summer is the fireworks.

365::157 - reliving the past

We got the cedar chest from my bedroom at my parents' house, which meant I had to empty it to load it onto the truck....which meant I went through all of the things in it. There were a lot of things that I forgot existed, including this sign from my first summer working at camp. It's got sweet notes from several of the people I worked with that summer--some of whom I'm still close to, and some that I hardly think about.

I realized while I was reading those notes that I genuinely liked everyone on the staff that summer. It's been a long time since I could say that. I think I'd like to have those rose-colored glasses back.

365::154 - good friends

Our friends Mike and Lori came to visit us while on their vacation. When Eric and I spent a year at Henderson Settlement in Kentucky, Mike and Lori lived just down the road from us. They are from Michigan, but they live and work in this rural Appalachian community as representatives of the United Methodist Church. We really enjoyed their friendship and support when we lived nearby, so it was great to have them as our first overnight house guests in our new home!

We took them to the cemetery at the top of the hill in Owego so that they could see our whole town at once, and the evening sun was shining on us. (That's why Lori looks like an angel in this photo!)

365::152 - putting it together

We got a dresser on super sale at Ikea when we went to visit Christie and Tim, so Eric had to put it together when we got home. There was a little bit of a snafu with making sure the drawers were right side up, but he got it worked out. It's amazing how many little pieces those buggers have!

365::148 - hungry

We went down to Baltimore to stay with my sister and her husband over Memorial Day weekend. Eric has found this 24-hour doughnut shop in York, and every time he goes to visit my sister or his brother, he has to stop at it. It's a funny little place. You should try it sometime--their doughnuts ARE delicious.

365::144 - dead

This used to be a mouse made out of felt. It's Natalie's favorite toy. She plays with other toys, but this is the one that she loves, the one that she carries around, the one that we find next to the bed in the morning.

When we moved, Eric said that this ratty piece of dead fluff wouldn't come to our new house. Natalie must have heard him, and she put the mouse in our bed, so when I pulled the sheets and blankets off, it got tangled up in the shuffle and ended up at our new house.

The thing is deteriorating into bits of stuffing strewn around the place, but it's still her favorite toy. What a character.
