lookout tower

This is the fire lookout tower on top of Mount Roosevelt in Tennessee. This was an unexpected side stop on our way to Texas...well worth the drive up the hill--the view was spectacular!

fragile

This week's Photo Friday theme is fragile, so I took a snapshot of this postcard. Mark and Linda found it in the Frakes House--it's addressed to Hiram Frakes in 1941.

blue skies

As we were traveling towards North Carolina this past weekend to visit Ike, we pulled off at this lookout near Beantown, Virginia. I took a few pictures of the valley, putting the horizon near the top of the frame, and I didn't notice the beautiful sky 'til I decided to switch up the composition.

I love dandelions, and since it's been warmer here, there are dandelions everywhere. I thought this would be an interesting juxtaposition of the flowers with the coal...but I'm not sure it's as awesome as I hoped it'd be!

found objects

I was roaming around the farm area of the Settlement this evening, and the old schoolhouse caught my eye, as it has in the past. I went inside, and there were all kinds of random things in there. I didn't move these at all--this is just how I found them.

spring has sprung

Sunday was a beautiful day here in Kentucky! Eric and I took advantage of it by hiking at Pine Mountain State Park. Here's a flower that was in the landscaping near the interpretive center.

Croikey!

Croikey, loook at that monster. :-)  I took this picture at the Cape May Zoo.  Which by the way if any of you are ever in Cape May, NJ, this is an excellent zoo, and best of all it is free!

Hero

I just thought I would share my all time favorite picture, this was written by my friend Martha, back in 2002.

after the rain

It's been raining for a few days here in Kentucky, and it's left everything damp. I finally got out and used my new camera today, and here's my favorite shot.

Honeymoon Falls

I took this at Pine Mountain State Park, not too far from the Settlement. I think that I used the "foliage" setting on my camera to bring out the green.
