(Monday, 29 March 2010) Thought I’d use this HO scale Canadian Pacific locomotive for some more practice with the close-up attachment for my Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera.

(Sunday, 28 March 2010) Decided to attend Park Terrace UMC this morning (one of my photos was being shown, after all.) They distributed these Eco-Palms available from Lutheran World Service. The palms were sustainably grown and harvested in Guatemala and the farmers there were given a fare wage for their work.

(Monday, 22 March 2010) Today was a special day. Not because the ice has almost completely melted off the lake or that it marked the one year anniversary of posting my first photo to Flickr. Rather it was the exciting news that came out of New York: The Impossible Project has successfully reinvented instant integral film! Funny thing is, I didn’t even own a single Polaroid camera when the ice formed on the lake. Today I own fifteen. I am so grateful to have been introduced to this medium and I am even more grateful that The Impossible Project will allow me to indulge in it even more.

(Saturday, 20 March 2010) The Niagara Mohawk building in downtown Syracuse was recently nominated for placement on the National Register of History Places. It’s a fine testament to the Art Deco style.

(Tuesday, 16 March 2010) A couple weeks ago I found a really great deal on a few SX-70 accessories. Today, I tried the close-up attachment for the first time. The afternoon sun was shining pretty brightly on my flowerbed, so I dialed the exposure level down a couple notches. Thought it developed a little darker, so tried the same shot again with the dial centered.

(Saturday, 13 March 2010) So the Deluge of O-Ten provided us with the perfect excuse to visit the American Museum of Natural History. It was the first opportunity I’ve taken to really use my SX-70 indoors. This one of the “Mammals of New York” exhibit turned out better than most of the others. (There is no such thing as a wasted Polaroid, but I came close with a couple of the shots…)

(Saturday, 13 March 2010) Had Saturday morning brunch with some friends at Philip Marie’s in the West Village. We scored a table right by the window, which was perfect for watching people vainly attempting to use umbrellas during the Deluge of O-Ten. After using two frames to get this shot, decided I needed to stop by the International Center of Photography Gift Shop to pick up another pack of ATZ film. I’m glad that a)I was in a city where I could actually find Polaroid film and b)that ICP was on our way Uptown.

(Friday, 12 March 2010) Arrived at Grand Central tonight to spend the weekend in the Big Apple. Read someplace that the tiles in Grand Central were designed to match human proportions so that it could be busy without feeling crowded or people constantly colliding into one another.

Ok, maybe it's an exaggeration to say that books are my life. I have lots of other things that I love. However, being a librarian, books provide me with a way to earn my living....a way that I really, really enjoy.

(I was going to say more about being a librarian, but I think that if I start in on it, I'll end up on a long rant about how much fun my job is and how important libraries are, and I need to go to bed soon, so I think I'll leave it at that.)

On Monday evening, Eric and I went to a study group at church. There were fantastic people there, and we had a discussion that started off by naming some of our strongest doubts and strongest beliefs. One person's beliefs included the idea that deep down, every person just wants to be loved. At many points during the rest of the evening, we kept returning to that idea, as it seemed to touch everything that we talked about.

When we got home that evening, that was at the front of my mind, so I guess this photo is my response to that discussion.

365::71 - this bee looks like my dad

We spent some time at my parents' home, and my sister and her husband were also there. My sister brought my dad this Pez machine that looks like a bee, and with its glasses and big grin, it bears an eerie resemblance to my father, who is a beekeeper!

It was fantastic to spend time with my family--they're great people, and I'm reminded of it more every time we see them.

Eric found this lighter at a flea market while he was in Kentucky. He likes it 'cause it's got an E on it. He figured out the the USS Frances M. Robinson was used during World War II, and that it got turned into scrap in the 1970s, but we can't figure out what E means. Any ideas?

(Thursday, 11 March 2010) Tonight was the first class of the Master Composting course that I’m taking with my friend, Eric, at the Broome County Cornell Cooperative Extension. We’re hoping to start a comprehensive composting program at Sky Lake this spring.
